During the Upheaval, city after city fell to the Enillo Virus, filling the streets with ravenous ghouls. Not even the countryside was spared, as millions of the undead flowed over the land. From the mountains of Appalachia to the beaches of the Atlantic, the East Coast was dead. Two groups must enter this nightmare. On one side is John Talon and his small crew, desperate to secure the foundation of a new country. On the other side is Major Thorton, bent on the destruction of the soul of the nation. In a race for the country, John must use all of his skill, determination, and resources to make sure the country does not forever stay the United States of the Dead.

This is a story about really one guy and his son. The story does change briefly to other people. This guy is pretty good guy and learns how to be handy. The story flows fairly well except a couple of times. The bad guy is predictable and short sighted…fortunately for all of humanity. For myself, I thought the protagonist “John” was fake humble, or today is it just humble…oh well…but today bad ass former principal. Truth is his character is confusing as he is humble with 99.99999% of all people loving him. So in all in all he is fun to read about but really has very little depth. I do love the previous books where his infant son and the dad’s love were well written.---------------------------------------
SPOILER ALERT:
---------------------------------------
Some things don’t work. Like we read about the hero in one chapter doings something and then…well…the next chapter the hero just starts off in a new chapter not in his protected vehicle and just inches away from death. Ugh…why the heck did he leave his safe vehicle? Those things were never explained. The trip to D.C. was to be on a bus and the route discounted by boat around Louisiana, to Florida, then up to D.C. but that is considered o.k. later in reverse. Anyway, I like the series but let’s face it…Mr. President…you can’t live on a state park and run the business of government. Doesn’t work…Not really an option. The book has a lot of great things and is a fast ride with ingenious thoughts about fighting and other options. I liked it.

United States of the Dead White Flag of the Dead Series Book 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Joseph Talluto Graham Halstead Tantor Audio Books Reviews
These White Flag series have everything and more we come to expect from a zombie book. There's so much adventure and fighting. The relationships formed by these survivors through battles and just basically surviving are so moving and makes for fantastic characters. The author makes u feel like you're right there with them, hating, battling, hurting, and surviving right there with them . It's great! And one of the best aspects of these series is there's a plan for the future, a realistic plan at that. The author is also hilarious! I love his humor and raw emotion he shows throughout the series. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. So if you're a zombie fan, you have to read The White Flag of the Dead Series! Believe me, you will not want to put them down!
This was another plus for author, Joseph Talluto! A bit different from. previous books in this series, but still a winner!
the story of John Talon and his family and friends as they over come great odds at taking back the country they loved and fought for, after the Upheaval of the apocalypse! Not only having to fight the zombie hordes but the living bad guys as well...showing strength and love and how when it comes down to survival of your loved ones you will find you can do anything needed to stay alive!
as always I recommend this series to all Zombie lovers and survivalist to read this! Talluto has become one of my favorites and I look.forward to anything he writes. looking forward to his next book of this series as I begin reading tonight!
Finally finished the White Flag of the Dead 6-book series. I was planning to review each book as I read it but to be honest as soon as I finished one book I immediately started the next one. I couldn't stop reading. This series is amazing and I was hooked from the very first book. I love all the characters and laughed, cheered and cried for and with them all. I am looking forward to reading the new Generation Dead which I already got ready on page 1 on my to read but I'm taking a breather to write this review. Although I am copying for each book they are all great books. I had no problem with the time gap between some of the books. Just made it more interesting although I am very curious about Denver now. I hope Joseph Talluto keeps writing because I am addicted to his books. If you like zombie books you will love these!
I read all of the books in this series, it was so well written and easy to read. I'm a college graduate, so I'm not saying easy in the way of ABC but rather it's flow and continuity, characters and plot line. There were some questions that never got answered, but if a zombie apocalypse were to happend I suppose there would be things that always remain that way. The characters, all of them, were so well written I felt I could honestly see them in my head. It was as if a movie were playing as I read, when that happens you know you've found a series you can sink your teeth in and enjoy (pardon the pun). I cried when (SPOILER ALERT) he found his wife at the hospital and cheered when he beat the psycho in Washington. The author carried readers from Chicago to DC and it was a journey I will take again. I hope he writes more, this is an author I will read religiously. A total surprise!
First of all, I recommend this series to anyone interested in zombie fiction. Absolutely at the top of the heap with JL Bourne and Max Brooks. Smart writing, a decent amount of wit. The story pulls you in and connects you with the characters, but then this leads to one of my issues. The loss of one of the characters felt very odd. A little rushed (understandable in the context of the story) and the method just seemed a little cheap to me. I don't want to ruin it of course, but you'll know when you see it. Also, the climax left me wanting a little. I feel like it was an out to allow the story to continue (if it does continue) and I feel like there were other ways it could have been handled that would have given a bit of closure and allowed for another story if the author were so inclined.
Anyway, I've spent too long on that point. Again, I wholeheartedly recommend this book and the rest of the White Flag series. For those put off by the political tone of the book, you need to realize that in the absence of a government to tell them different, people tend to revert to a much more conservative/libertarian way of life. That's how it was in the "good ole days".
